Taking on the GPT self-guided can be an amazing experience. There’s a lot to think about in planning, but luckily, we are here to help.

Where will you start and finish? Where will you leave your car and how will you return to it? How many days will you walk for and how much food will you need or want to carry? Do you have all of the necessary gear to stay safe and comfortable?

Our hiker support services are designed to assist with your planning and provide solutions to any logistical challenges you may encounter.

Walk Planning

Once you get on the trail the Grampians Peaks Trail can be quite simple, left, right, repeat for 160km (ok there’s a little more to it than that!), but there is a lot of thought that needs to go into it before you get here.

Our top tips for planning a successful GPT hike:

  1. Plan ahead and book early!
  2. If you’re driving, plan to leave your car at the END of your walk and use our shuttle to get to the start. Availability can be limited at times so plan ahead and book early!
  3. If you’re walking a longer distance, take advantage of our free Halls Gap food drop and book any other food drop that you might need – advanced bookings recommended.
  4. Do NOT rely on your mobile phone for safety. Much of the trail does not have reliable phone coverage. Purchase or hire a PLB, satellite messenger or satelite phone – stores are limited so plan ahead and book early.
  5. Did we mention planning ahead and booking early?!
