The trail departing Halls Gap is the most iconic section of the Grampians Peaks Trail. It journeys over rugged and dramatic landscapes to visit some of the most recognised features in the national park. Venus Baths, the Grand Canyon and of course the Pinnacle - and that's just the first day!

This overnight hike was the first section of Grampians Peaks Trail to open back in 2015 and it still holds value. It explores the Wonderland range before undertaking a fantastic skyline traverse of Mt Rosea.

We'll spend the night camping out in our supported hiker camp, rest, enjoy a freshly cooked trail meal and sleep under a blanket of stars. No matter your level of hiking experience, our passionate local team will guide and support you through this short journey to explore their backyard.

Program Details

Route Description

Day 1 11 km - ⬆695m - ⬇250m
Our team will assemble in the morning, conduct a briefing and gear check then be transported to the start of the trail in Halls Gap. Our walk will begin through the stunning native botanical gardens and continue along the path to Venus Baths. From here we begin climbing up through the Wonderland Range, looking back we'll see stunning views of the dramatic Elephants Hide. We'll walk through the Grand Canyon, past the Cool Chamber and up Silent Street to the well-known Pinnacle. Traversing the tops of the Wonderland range will take us towards the Sundial and then descend steadily to one of our established hiker camps at either Bugiga or Stoney Creek. The evening is ours to relax, tell stories, enjoy a great freshly cooked camp dinner and watch the stars until bedtime.

Day 2
8.5 km - ⬆320m - ⬇715m
Waking to a stunning view of the Grampians, we'll be greeted with fresh coffee and a healthy breakfast, before we pack our gear and continue our journey. Day 2 takes us up and over Mt Rosea. We'll walk up and along her exposed ridgeline with views in all directions from the top of one of the tallest rock climbing walls in the central Grampians. Descending to the south to explore the valley floor before reaching the end of our trail, we'll then be picked up and transported back to Halls Gap.

Who is the program for?

Who is this program for?
Our 'Journey' programs are designed for those who love to hike and explore (no matter your level of experience) and prefer the idea of a continuous journey - multiple days, start to finish without leaving the trail. While we provide as much support and comfort as we can, we'll be camping in lightweight hiking tents, sleeping on your inflatable hiking mattress and staying in campsites equipped with composting tank toilets (but not showers!). We take care of all the group equipment (tents, cooking equipment etc) so you should be capable of carrying your personal belongings, approximately 8-12 kgs.

If you like creature comforts like a hot shower at the end of each day and walking pack free - check out our Grampians Luxe programs!
